Nature of the service

antikytheramechanism.app is a free educational and research tool. It reproduces the behaviour of the Antikythera mechanism from published data and compares it with modern ephemerides.

Accuracy of the computations

• The reference astronomical positions are computed with Meeus’s algorithms (Astronomical Algorithms): accuracy of a few arc-minutes for Sun and Moon, lower for the planets and for dates far from 2000.
• The pointer positions reproduce the ancient machine with its original ratios: the drift against the sky is part of the model and is documented.
• Items marked “hypothesis”, “derived” or “to be verified” are distinguished from measured data: see Research and Project status.
• Dates before 1582 are in the Julian calendar; BC years follow historical numbering (1 BC = astronomical year 0).

Intellectual property

Texts, code, 3D models and graphics: © 2026 Gaspare Russo. Classroom and non-commercial use is permitted with attribution: “Gaspare Russo, antikytheramechanism.app”. The cited tooth counts, measurements and scientific models belong to their respective authors (Freeth et al.) and are used with citation of the source. Third-party libraries (three.js, MIT) remain under their own licences.
